TCG Anadolu

The demands of the force were different at the beginning; on the one hand, it was an LHD-style full-purpose landing ship, and on the other hand, it was an LPD-style ship, and ideas were divided in both directions.

In fact, at first it was wanted to build something like LPD in 2005, but later it was understood that LHD would be more beneficial to the Force, and on December 26, 2013, Sedef Shipyard announced that it had received the project and a design support agreement was reached with the Spanish Navantina company. According to the agreement, Juan Carlos class LHD Design and information transfer would be made.

The design would belong to the Spanish, but the systems inside would be made locally and nationally.

TCG ANADOLU was signed with the Undersecretary of Defense Industry on June 1, 2015, and work started.

TCG ANADOLU would have an infirmary/hospital with a capacity of at least 30 beds, including operating rooms, x-ray devices, dental treatment units, intensive care and infection rooms, and could serve as an Assistance/Hospital Ship in humanitarian aid operations.

A total of 1,450 people are expected to work at TCG ANADOLU. In some events such as natural disasters, this number may reach 5,000.

ANADOLU has a length of 232m and a width of 32m and a height of 58m.

The ship has a 1,165m² pool for mechanized landing craft. 4 LCMs or 2 LCACs could be kept in this pool.

The ship has a displacement of 27,436 tons with full load.

The ship has the capacity to carry a total of 94 vehicles at a time, including 13 tanks, 27 ZAHAs, 6 APCs, 33 miscellaneous vehicles and 15 miscellaneous vehicles.

Additionally, 10 helicopters or 50 aircraft could be deployed on the ANADOLU flight deck.

TCG ANADOLU would also be the world's first UAV ship.

ANADOLU It could also have aircraft such as F35B or AV-8B harrier with vertical take-off and landing systems.

For self-defense, the ship would be equipped with 2 Phalanx 20mm close-in weapon systems (CIWS) and 1 RAM surface-to-air missiles, and there would also be 5 domestic Aselsan 25mm STOP and 4 12.7 mm STAMP stations. And it would be equipped with the Hızır torpedo countermeasure system developed by Aselsan.

Compared to the Juan Carlos class LHD, ANADOLU would be stronger and better at defending itself than Juan Carlos.

The first welding ceremony was held on April 30, 2016. The ship will be the flagship of the Turkish Naval Forces when its construction is completed.

An unfortunate accident occurred at TCG ANADOLU, 1 week before its launch on April 30, 2019. A small fire broke out as a result of the ropes stored in the lower maneuvering area catching fire.

While there was no loss of life in the incident, there was material loss. However, despite all these events, ANADOLU reached the sea on May 4 and entered the inventory in a magnificent way on April 10, 2023.
